Some possible readings on identity...
Here are 3 classic works on identity:

I vote for the Goffman piece, Hogg et al., and Morgan and Schwalbe.

The Simmel article was a good foundational reading, but we read it in Judith's class last semester. I'd up be for discussing that as well.
