MAS 963 Conversation project
assignment :
- Observe conversations in various situations - at school, in stores, at parties, over dinner. Using one such conversation as a basis, try creating an abstract representation of it. What are you showing - who is there? what is said? how do the people negotiate interruptions? can you depict changes in footing, etc? Use this as an exercise both in thinking about what is important about conversations and in pushing the way you think they might appear when visuallly depicted.
- Create a visual interface to the conversation in a Usenet newsgroup. Use the vocabulary of shape, color, line and position we have discussed. Show how your visualization would depict 2 different groups. Explain how it would work - is this a visualization that illuminates today's archives or is it a new interface, one that changes how the user participates? Be clear about what you are showing (what data is being visualized), how you imagine that information being derived, and why this is an interesting thing to do.
