By clicking anywhere outside of the region, the profile system shows that Gaia's selection was saved and is left behind as a world icon to indicate that it is public data. If she were to click on that icon, she would return to the selector, allowing her to make changes. Also, since this is a public bit of information, it is added to the public identity region below, just to remind Gaia of what her public profile looks like.
